SURGOINSVILLE — A Looney’s Gap Road man told a Hawkins Co. Sheriff’s Deputy April 18 that he had been beaten with a baseball bat by another man who then took $300 cash and his cellular telephone from him on Cobb Road.

A report filed by Corporal Kenneth Ferguson indicated that the victim told him that a man and woman had come to his residence on Looney’s Gap Road and had given him a ride to Dot & Rick’s convenience store on Highway 11W.

On the way back, the report said, the male suspect, who was driving a Ford F-.250 pickup truck, traveled on Bradley Creek Road and then on Cobb Road. When he got to Cobb Road, the report stated, the suspect pulled over and the female suspect got out of the truck complaining of sickness.

“When (the victim) was getting back in the truck, (the male suspect) hit him in the back of the head with a baseball bat,” Cpl. Ferguson wrote in his report.” (The victim) stated that he fell to the ground and that (the male suspect) hit him several more times in the left shoulder and foot.”

Cpl. Ferguson wrote in his report that he would be issuing a warrant for the arrest of the male suspect.
