Saturday Nigh Thunder Storms Shower Hail on Hawkins County

Hailstones littered lawns in the Striggersville community following an 8 p.m. Saturday, March 17, thunder storm.

ROGERSVILLE – Thunder storms packing hail roared into the Rogersville area from the north about 8 p.m. Saturday, leaving lawns and roadways strewn with marble-sized hailstones and causing possible damage to roofs and vehicles.

The National Weather Service in Morristown had issued a thunder storm watch about 4:30 p.m., but a Review reporter's weather radio did not activate to warn of an actual thurnder storm until it had already struck the Striggersville community about 8 p.m,

Traffic slowed on Tennessee Highway 70 North as the storm raged and covered much of the roadway with hailstones. High winds also accompanied the initial storm.

The National Weather Service had predicted a risk of severe thunder storms until after midnight Saturday for Hawkins and surrounding counties.

At 7:39 p.m. Saturday, the NWS issued a second severe thunderstorm warning until 9:30 p.m. The warning said damaging hail and winds were expected to accompany the second thunder storm.
