MORRISTOWN — The official kickoff to the 2008 high school football season is not slated until Thursday evening, August 21, when a handful of teams will lace it up and hit the gridiron here in East Tennessee, but Five Rivers Conference football fans can get a sneak peak of this their favorite teams at Burke-Toney Stadium Friday.

Festivities at the FRC Jamboree are set to commence at 6:18 Friday in Morristown with the singing of the National Anthem.  Following that cheerleaders from Daniel Boone, then Volunteer, will each perform three-minute routines for the crowd.  Attention will then turn to the pigskin as the Trailblazers and the Falcons tussle for 12 minutes.

The second pairing of schools features defending champ Greeneville against Morristown East.  The Devil and Hurricane cheerleaders will each perform prior to that match.

The evening’s third session will be opened up with routines by the Jefferson County and Cherokee cheerleaders, respectively.  Afterward, the 5A Patriots, who are joining a conference with Cherokee next season, will meet the Chiefs.

Following the Cherokee/Jefferson County pairing will be the individual skills competitions.

First will be the Longest Throw, then Longest Punt, Fastest Lineman, Fastest Line over 250 pounds, Fastest Back and finally Longest Field Goal.

The Cocke County and Morristown West cheerleaders will signal the start of the next session.  The West Trojans will then battle the Roosters for 12 minutes, before a brief respite where the David Crockett cheerleaders will perform.

West will then retake the field and battle the Pioneers for a quarter of football.

Each team will be allowed one time out during its 12-minute scrimmage.  Home teams will be West, in each of its games, Cherokee, Morristown East and Volunteer.

Cheerleading awards will be given during the  final session.

Admission is $5 and no passes will be accepted.  Fans of the home teams are asked to sit on the home side of the stadium.  Schools may sell shirts, caps etc. outside the stadium, except for Morristown East.  Schools may film only the session in which their team is playing during the Jamboree.
