ROGERSVILLE - Elizabeth Allred, 75, of 134 Stapleton Ln., Apt. 6, in Rogersville was still hospitalized on Thursday with injuries she received Monday when a boulder crashed through her bedroom at Holston Hills apartment complex. Debbie Jones, Allred's daughter, told The Review on Thursday afternoon that her mother was lucky to be alive. Allred, who was also recovering from a recent hip surgery, was asleep in a hospital bed at the residence when the large rock dislodged from an adjacent hillside at approximately 4:30 a.m. The boulder collided with the apartment and crashed through the wall, into Allred's bedroom for a distance of approximately five feet, splintering boards and a closet entrance. "Her bed was right here," Jones said pointing to a knee-high pile of debris and a large hole in the exterior wall. "When the boulder came down it rolled her bed across the room." A crew from Luke Smith and Son Excavating was at the scene of the incident on Thursday to remove the boulder as well as clear mud, rocks and other debris that followed the boulder down the hillside.
