ROGERSVILLE – Local youths got to “take a dad” fishing for Free Fishing Day Saturday at Rogersville City Park.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s annual event allows anyone to fish free without a license in Tennessee’s public waters.
TWRA officers Chris Seay and Cody Young oversaw Saturday’s event. Each year Free Fishing Day allows anyone – especially children – the opportunity to celebrate fishing as a wholesome and healthy recreational option in hopes of increasing interest in fishing.
The TWRA is among several organizations that plan special fishing events, primarily for youngsters. The TWRA annually stocks several thousand pounds of fish for various events.
Saturday’s Free Fishing Day at Rogersville City Park was sponsored by: Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Rogersville Parks and Recreation, Rogersville Walmart, Hartness Insurance Agency, Martin’s Greenhouse, Christian-Sells Funeral Home, Horace E. Saunders, DDS, Hagood Eye Care, Hawkins Farmer’s Co-op, DBR Metal Roofing Supply, Jamie’s Barber Shop and EZ Pawn.
Seay recognized the sponsors and urged participants to show their appreciation by wearing their Free Fishing Day T-shirts the next time they visited the respective businesses.
In addition to Saturday’s event, children ages 15 and younger may continue fishing without a license through this Friday (June 14).
