BULLS GAP — Derek Lee Silvers, age 36, beloved son and brother, passed away unexpectedly on June 24, 2019.
Derek’s family and friends will remember his big, beautiful smile, his huge giving heart, and his amazing mechanical ability.
Derek had an adventurous spirit and a gentle soul. He loved all things outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Derek enjoyed working with his hands. He was gifted with the ability to visualize and fabricate items of any material. Derek considered it a blessing to help others.
Derek was born March 24, 1983. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age eleven. He was a 2001 graduate of Cherokee High School. He earned a machining certificate from the TN College of Applied Technology. Derek was employed as a journeyman maintenance mechanic/machinist at the TVA John Sevier Combined Cycle plant in Rogersville, TN.
Derek was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harold E. and Doris Silvers; maternal grandfather, Robert D Justis; uncle, Gregg Silvers; and beloved labs, Nugget and Diesel.
Derek is survived by: loving parents, Jeff and Gloria Silvers; beloved “little” brother, Cody Silvers; grandmother and special “Pap”, Joyce and Clifford Lamb; uncles, Kevin Silvers, Larry and John Justis; aunt, Karen Silvers; cousins, Tracie Howlett, Travis, Ava, and Eli Silvers, Maggie, Sarah, Emily, and Bentley Justis; special friend, Jessica Welsh; and best friends for life, Joel Shipley and “Uncle Nate” Nathan Grant.
The family will receive friends Friday, June 28, from 3-7:30 p.m., at Christian-Sells Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 8 p.m., with Rev. Rip Noble and Rev. Scot Farmer officiating. The graveside service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 29, at McCullough-Tieke Cemetery in Bulls Gap, TN. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m.
