Hilda Ruth Campbell King entered her eternal rest on June 7, 2019, at Holston Valley/Ballad Health following a fall that caused severe brain trauma.
Hilda was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother (Nanny) and friend. She was a hard worker, loved the Lady Vols, and loved to read, sew, bake, and especially go to yard sales.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John D. and Ola Marshall Stroupe Campbell; brothers, Worley and Tommy Campbell, Carl, Herman, and Kyle Stroupe; sisters Dovie Campbell Payne and Mary Stroupe Craddock, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Hilda is survived by her husband, Charles L. King, Sr.; children, Charles (Chuck) L. King Jr. (Toni), John M. (Catawba) King, and Melissa (Steven) Robbins; grandchildren, Heather King, Amber (Teddy) Wilhoit, Ostyn, Charlsie, and Cadyn King, Dakota and Colton Robbins; great-grandchildren, Brylie Neeley and Sabastian Wilhoit; her sister, Doris Campbell Gaw (Larry); several nieces, nephews, and cousins; special adopted son, Steve (Mandy) Whetsell and family; special adopted grandchildren, Nick (Tiffany) and Sarah Howard, Meghan (William) and Liam Denton, and Mikaela Howard; special family friends, Anita and Roger Howard, Judy Trapp and family.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m., Saturday, June 15, 2019, at Carter Trent Funeral Home, in Church Hill. A short service will follow. Hilda’s wishes were to be cremated so no viewing or formal graveside service will be conducted.
