KINGSPORT — An undercover drug investigation by the Hawkins Co. Sheriff’s Office’s Narcotics Unit resulted in arrest Wednesday morning for various drug offenses. A passenger in the vehicle was also arrested on an unrelated charge of violation of probation.
On July 17, 2019, Chad Edward Vest, 39, of Mount Carmel, was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Around 4 a.m., the Hawkins Co. Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit was conducting an investigation in reference to an individual whom they believed to be Vest allegedly distributing methamphetamine. During the investigation, an undercover officer spoke to Vest and arranged to purchase a quantity of methamphetamine from him at Weigels, located on Stone Drive, in Kingsport.
Officers with the Narcotics Unit and Patrol Division set up surveillance on the gas station and a short time later, Vest was observed to arrive at the store. Officers approached and spoke to the man and during a search of the vehicle, located approximately 3.3 grams of a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine and two sets of digital scales.
A passenger, Jackie Vest, was arrested for an outstanding Hawkins County arrest warrant for violation of probation.
At the time of the press release on Thursday morning, both subjects remained in the custody of the Hawkins Co. Jail pending arraignment in General Sessions Court.
