BULLS GAP — An apparent murder-suicide in Bulls Gap remains under investigation by the Hawkins Co. Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Ronnie Lawson said that about 6:54 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2019, his office received a call about shots fired at 2007 Walter Drive.

“Officers arrived on scene and found a female with a gunshot wound,” Lawson said.

The woman was transported to Ballad Health’s Hawkins Co. Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

“A male subject was also found on scene with a gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased on scene,” Lawson said. “This case is being investigated as a murder / suicide with the male being the shooter.”

On Monday morning, Lawson told the Review that the investigation revealed that the shooting apparently happened during an argument between Joshua Kennedy, 34, and Katherine Kennedy, 32.

“During this argument, Joshua Kennedy did shoot Katherine Kennedy, then turned the gun on himself,” Lawson said. “There were other family members present in the home when this incident occurred.”

Lawson said that because this is still an on-going investigation, no other details can be released at this time.
