Whatever you may be doing this weekend — working, relaxing, vacationing — the Review invites our readers to take snapshots and send them in for our “Summer Weekend in the Life of Hawkins County” magazine.

From 12:01 a.m., Friday, May 31, until midnight on Sunday, June 2, snap away!

Photos can be made here in Hawkins County, or if you are away on vacation, wherever you are enjoying the weekend with your family.

The photos contained in this quarterly magazine represent a labor of love on the part of our staff and those in the community who contribute your own photos to the publication.

These “everyday” activities that we all participate in but so many times take for granted are what makes this county what it is.

We believe that the treasures of living in Hawkins County are truly hidden in those moments of everyday existence, tucked inside the day-to-day events that often go untold, unnoticed, and unappreciated.

What makes it so awesome are the stories that are written on the faces of the people who make this county’s world turn.

From Mooresburg to Allandale, from Bulls Gap to Clinch, we try to capture in pictorial evidence who we are and what we do.

The photos of Hawkins County folks at work and play, and every place in between, represent who we are.

But before someone says, “you didn’t include this or that”, I must tell you that it is not our intent to attempt to photograph every business, every profession, every historic site, and every single event that takes place. That would be far beyond the scope of this or any other publication.

To the businesses, professional clinics and others who support this special publication with their advertising, we thank you! Please take time to patronize their places of business and to offer your own thanks for their participation.

Most of all, we thank all who so kindly allow us to come into their “world” and make pictures as we try to capture this day in images.

We are always welcomed by so many who seem to be just as excited about this special project as we were, as evidenced by the smiles you will see on faces that appear in the photos inside the magazine.

We hope you enjoy this one-of-a-kind special edition that is all about US and OUR home county enough to grab a camera (or your cell phone) and snap away.

All we ask is that you give us a bit of specific information about your photos, the old traditional “who, what, when, where, why” — who’s in the photo, where was it made, what time and date was it made, and a brief description of what’s going on in the picture.

Two things before I close: NO EMBARRASSING OR INDECENT PICTURES will be accepted, and we cannot use Facebook/social-media size photo files, so if your images have been uploaded to social media, please send the ORIGINAL FILES, not those that have been uploaded/downloaded on FB. The size of those “compressed” files simply are too small to reproduce well in print.

The deadline to submit your photos is NOON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 5.

You can send files by email to:

Have fun snapping pictures and then look for your photos in “A Summer Weekend in Hawkins County” around the end of June.
