Madge Long Foster, age 90, Kanterbury Drive, Knoxville, passed away on Saturday morning at her home after a brief illness. She was born and raised in Whitesburg where the Long and Pangle families received land grants in the Bent Creek Settlement in 1778. She was a member of the Alice Bell Baptist Church of Knoxville where she was a member of the mary and Martha Sunday School Class and was a former member of Robertson Creek Baptist Church of Bulls Gap. She attended Whitesburg High School, where she was a star basketball player. She attended the Knoxville Business College and was retired from The White Stores Inc. for 46 years. She was the daughter of the late James Smith and Nell Gray Fisher Long of Whitesburg. She was preceded in death by her first husband; Everett Holder and second husband; Ernest Foster, both of Knoxville. She was preceded in death by her sister; Eva Jeanette Heck, of Kingsport and brothers; Frances Smith Long and Max Miller Long of Whitesburg. Great-niece; Laura Allison Schism of Kingsport. She is survived by step-son and wife; Max and Patsy Foster of Seymour, step-daughter and husband; Sandy and Ed Mee of Farragut. Several step-grandchildren. One sister; Maxine Long Shepherd of Bulls Gap. Three nieces and husband; Joanne Heck Schism, Mary Donn Heck Kilday and husband Jack, all of Kingsport, Donna Shepherd Qualls of Bulls Gap; Two nephews and wives, Rev. Richard and Rebecca Long of Mosheim and Rodney and Teresa Long of Morristown. Three great nieces; Kerri Atkins and Krista Long, both of Morristown. Madonna Qualls of Bulls Gap. Four great nephews; Phillip Long of Greeneville, Christopher Long of Mosheim, and Matthew and Luke Qualls, both of Bulls Gap. One great-great-niece; Emmalee Atkins of Morristown. Special cousins and wife; Van and Lois Fisher of Knoxville. Special friends; Ryan and Agnes Long of Knoxville and special niece of her first husband; Jenny Kate Presnell of Knoxville. And many other friends. Graveside service Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. at the Narrow Valley Baptist Church Cemetery in Grainger County, with her pastor the Rev. Toby Everett officiating. Family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday evening at Stevens Mortuary, at Oglewood Avenue and Broadway, Knoxville.
