L. C. Dykes, age 72, of Rogersville, passed away Friday
evening, June 26, 2009, at Greystone Health Care Center following a courageous battle with cancer.
He
was of the Baptist faith and was retired from Tennessee Division of Forestry.
He was preceded in
death by his parents, Carson and Lurlie Dykes; brothers, Leroy and Lester Dykes; and sister, Emily
Mullins.
He is survived by his brothers, Chester (Mary) Dykes of Kingsport, Leo (Lola) Dykes of Church
Hill, Jerry (Cathy) Dykes of Surgoinsville, and Randall Dykes of Rogersville; sisters, Rosella Faulk
of Kingsport, Mary Houseright of Church Hill; brother-in-law, Howard Mullins of Port Clinton, Ohio;
sister-in-law, Edna Dykes of Surgoinsville; special friend, Monica Gulley; several nieces, nephews,
great nieces, and great nephews.
The family wants to send a special thank you to Greystone Health Care
Center, Wellmont doctors: Dr. McElroy, Dr. Grover, Dr. Smith, and Dr. Manole, and U-Save
Pharmacy.
The family will receive friends anytime at the residence of his brother and sister-in-law,
Jerry and Cathy Dykes, and from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Monday, June 29, 2009. Funeral services will follow
at 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Riley Jones officiating. Honorary pallbearers
will be Charles Cavin, David Parvin and Delmer Simpson. Pallbearers will be Troy Dykes, Chad
McMurray, Tim Bailey and his fellow members of the Tennessee Division of Forestry. Graveside
services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Jake Jones Cemetery.
