ROGERSVILLE — East Tennessee State University’s Quillen College of Medicine will be hosting a free Health Fair and Screening next Wednesday, Aug. 20.

The health fair will be from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.    The location will be the familiar Rural Health Consortium building past Pig and Chick Restaurant, located at 4966 Hwy, 11W in Rogersville.

This is the third year Quillen College of Medicine has taken these health fairs to regional communities as a way to help train medical students under the supervision of local doctors.

The Quillen College of Medicine fairs differ somewhat from some screening fairs which allow residents to get one thing checked and leave.   Students will take those willing to participate through a full series of screenings.  Local doctors will be at the fair to supervise what students do.

These screenings qualify for full medical exams for those needing annual exams for either their workplace or those wanting to participate in sports at school.

Screenings include physical exams, blood sugar and pressure checks, hearing and vision checks, and an EKG if indicated.  A limited number of Pap Smears will be done, but residents need to make an appointment for these by calling Jeanie Parrott at 272-4808 or 312-1979.

Kyle House Reflexology and Massage Therapy will be there doing chair massages.

Several area groups will be at the Fair with displays and providing informational material and residents can bring any unused and unwanted prescriptions to be properly disposed of by the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office.

Sponsors for this year’s fair include Of One Accord Ministry, Rural Health Services, Solstas Labs, Highlands Pathology, Hawkins County Memorial Hospital,  and Quillen College of Medicine including teachers.
