What do Abraham, the Shunammite woman, Gaius, and Lydia have in common? They all were hospitable to others. In Genesis 18:2-8, we read that when Abraham saw three men standing nearby, he hurried to meet them and offered water to wash their feet, (a courtesy to refresh a traveler in a hot, du…

Right now I’m sure many of you have turkey up to your eyeballs and are wondering just what to do with it. I’m giving you several ideas of how to use that leftover bird. But first, how about some fur and interesting turkey facts.

When I was growing up in the 1950s and 1960s, one of the most popular types of TV series and movies was the all-American cowboy western. You could scarcely turn on your TV or go to the movies without seeing heroes such as Hopalong Cassidy, The Lone Ranger, Roy Rogers, or Gene Autry.

Growing up, I received a Christian education at home, school, and church. I had a lot of head knowledge without much heart application. After marriage, I experienced problems that I couldn’t solve and was upset that God wouldn’t fix them. Remembering how God intervened for His people in bibl…

Around 850 B.C. a great famine occurred in Samaria because Aram’s army surrounded the city; the siege lasted a long time. Joram, king of Israel, blamed Elisha and the Lord, and ordered God’s prophet’s death. Elisha responded with a message from God that the next day would be better (2 Kings …

Many people allow their minds to wander or sleep during a church service. Look around and see how many people are paying attention. Today’s church gatherings often lack emotion. What are they missing compared to the first church recorded in Acts? “Every day they continued to meet together in…

I had surgery again for cancer. This disease isn’t contagious, but it attacks random individuals in any part of their bodies. Cancer is feared because it’s often lethal. My daughter-in-law lost her mother from this disease, just two weeks after the birth of her first child. Thankfully, my ca…

Being a discussion leader at the community Bible study wasn’t enough to keep me from thinking I needed to do more to serve God. One day when that feeling surfaced from deep inside, I mentally asked the Lord what He wanted me to do. And unexpectedly, He caused my mind to reply, “You’re doing …

As Christmas time draws near, I start thinking of all my favorite foods of the season. In the next few weeks I will be sharing many of my favorites. One of my favorite happens to be fruitcake.

Some statistics claim that less than 20% of America’s population attends church weekly. Has secular peer pressure overcome the religious voice? Various reports suggested laziness, unbelief, and logistical barriers for decreased attendance.

A big hello again from downtown Persia, Tennessee. Hope everyone had a great week. I had one of the most enjoyable ones I’ve had for a very long time. On Saturday June 3, I attended the 50-year reunion of the Rogersville High School Class of 1968.

I get aggravated when I hear unbelievers quote something from the Bible that seems absurd, to justify their belief that it’s just a religious book of unreasonable laws. Society today has devalued Scripture and too many people undermine the Bible because they hear others do it or they don’t w…

My son-in-law’s relative was telling me the benefits of hormone therapy, and I started chuckling. I was wondering what type of hormone therapy God gave Sarah to become pregnant at the age of 90. After explaining my smirk, her response was, “Who is Sarah?” I replied that Sarah was Abraham’s w…

It amazes me that as I look out at this marvelous world, how God, in his wisdom, put it all together to work so wonderfully, unless man messes it up.

Are you a picky eater or an adventurous one? I like to think I’m a pretty adventurous eater, but there are some things that I absolutely haven’t and WON”T eat. Among those are raw fish, raw meat, snails, and those duck eggs with the baby duck in them. Yuck to all of these!

After my mother’s death, confusion and mix-ups occurred between her children. The text messaging that followed added fuel to the fire. One sibling refused to talk on the phone with me to clear up the misunderstandings, choosing instead to continue with a negative and hostile attitude for a f…

I asked myself this question when I was in Israel. The first full day in my bucket-list destination, a pearl earring was missing from on top of the hotel dresser.

One of my pet peeves is when someone says that a deceased person is an angel watching over a person. While the effort to be comforting is appreciated, the statement isn’t true; humans do not turn into angels. Perhaps people got that idea from watching the movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” in w…

Since people are willing to create havoc and injure others for money, a billionaire has been funding violent political protests. The previous administration and appointed judges ignored the Constitution and ruled according to their personal desires, leading many current politicians and immig…

Question: Do I need Jesus and a “Campbellite preacher” to be saved? If I do then Jesus is not the only Mediator (1 Tim 2:5) and the Holy Spirit is not the only Administrator (1 Cor. 12:13) of salvation — the Church of Christ preacher is necessary to salvation for he is performing a saving ac…

I’ve never believed in the possibility of life on an undiscovered planet, but I enjoyed Robin Williams’ portrayal of the alien “Mork” on the T.V. programs “Happy Days” and “Mork and Mindy.” Fictional movies like “Star Wars” and “Star Trek” have many fans, while “Independence Day” and “Cocoon…

Have you ever thought about what your talent/talents are? As a kid, I did. With no siblings with which to compare, I looked at my cousins; and let me tell you, there are oodles of them. I began with those in my age group, and then moved on to the older ones and then to seal the deal; I obser…

Howdy, dear readers, how are you faring with the weather? It is a little unsure of itself isn’t it? One week it is warm and spring-like, and the next week it is cold with a chance of snow! Oh well, we really cannot complain too loudly, as all of the flowering trees are in glorious full bloom…

Okay, I will say it out loud. Far too many Hollywood celebs are self-aggrandizing idiots when it comes to politics and culture. Their worldview makes them feel superior to the rest us. Neither facts nor common sense will change their minds. Ronald Reagan nailed it when he said, “It isn't so …

My elderly mother grieved four friends’ deaths in the past two weeks at her retirement complex. She tearfully told me that she no longer has anyone to sit with at mealtime. She gets her food and brings it to her room to eat, and spends that time for socializing by herself. She is lonely; her husband passed away ten years ago, and all of her children live far away in other states.

I hope your sleigh is redy. Please bring me a nice mom. I think it would be nice to have a mom. She will do my hair. Because I have never had a mom that would take care of me and I think it would be nice. Moms can ride horses better than my dad. I wont be mean and I will go to college! I dont even want to go to college but I will if I get a mom Please!! She will be nice and is a horses lover like me.

What do you enjoy more: giving gifts or receiving them? The most followed tradition of celebrating a birthday is to give a card or gift to the person whose birth you acknowledge.
