ROGERSVILLE—People Loving People (PLP) Thanksgiving Dinner is here and organizers still need donations to pay for meals, as well as volunteers to help prepare, serve and deliver them.
Tomorrow, Nov. 24, more than 3,000 traditional, hot, free dinners will have been prepared and served at Joseph Rogers Primary School (JRP) in Rogersville.
Freshly prepared turkey, ham, green beans, corn, dressing, gravy, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and dessert has been planned from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. for the public to enjoy free of charge.
PLP Chairman Dr. Blaine Jones, said funding for this year’s event is dependent on sponsors and individual donors since an annual benefit auction and barbecue dinner were cancelled.
“We need individuals, families, businesses, industry, churches, civic groups—anyone who can donate, to please do so,” Jones said. “Our organization is a branch of our nonprofit organization, Four Square, Inc., and we use an all-volunteer staff. So, if anyone would like to contribute a donation this year they can send a check to Four Square, Inc., / People Loving People Thanksgiving Dinner, P.O. Box 35, Rogersville, TN 37857.
Jones said volunteers are also needed around the clock from Wednesday morning at 10 a.m.-4 p.m. or so on Thanksgiving Day. Delivery drivers are also in demand as are food preparers, meal box packers and people to clean up at the days end.
Individuals or groups who are interested in volunteering should call Cary Lewis Barton at 345-3743 for details.
“This is an unbelievable undertaking and will be one of the biggest blessings of your life,” Jones concluded. “God commanded us to love and serve one another and Lord knows, this world needs all the love and service we can get right now.”
